Nags Head, North Carolina
This morning I was in the place where in 1903 the first flight was carried out propelled and controlled in history, thanks to the annual pass for the National Parks that gave me in New York another traveller who left the country when I entered.
The Wright brothers came from the north of the country looking for wind and sandy soils to soften the landings. When I found out they were cyclists, I felt a bit of pride. The experiments cost them the benefits of a bicycle workshop and many of the components and tools they used for the construction of that first plane were those used for bicycles.
It's amazing to think it's only been a little over 100 years since that first flight of just a few dozen meters.
